Police Procedures, and is Brutality part of their job description?

It’s not until the other day that I was pulled over by a state trooper and I was treated like a low-life that really got me thinking about this. Let me make this clear, I’m not a low life. I do happen to be at a low point in my life, but I always treat others with respect.

Now, here was my situation: I was putting on my seat belt as I was pulling onto the road. And that’s not just a story, I always wear my seat belt. There was a state trooper traveling in the same lane of traffic that saw this. And decided to pull me over for it. I pulled over pretty quickly to a safe area where we wouldn’t have to worry about passing traffic. I’m sure he pulled up my record when he ran my license plate and there are no violent offenses on there. In fact, there are no felonies on there at all. Just a few traffic tickets, like I’m sure most of us have.

In my situation, after a while I stood up to talk to the officer face to face, like men do, calmly, respectfully, and with a good attitude. He started to get a bad attitude with me, and then told me to sit down and drop the attitude. I assured the officer that I sincerely wasn’t giving him an attitude – that’s just not the kind of person I am – You’d have to be quite an idiot to get an attitude with a person who has the ability to take you to jail. For some reason he ended up giving me a little bit of a break. I think sometimes police officers just like to make it clear that they’re all-powerful to make you do whatever they want you to do.

But now on to the point of my post:

This is something I’ve seen time and time again, as we all have I’m sure. The police have caught their suspect. He’s choosing to surrender peacefully, the game’s up and they know it. He hasn’t tried to run, resist arrest, nothing.  I mean, he hasn’t given the officers any reason to think that he’s going to put up any sort of a fight. Simple as that, right? They just walk up and place the cuffs on him, right?

Nope, wrong. This situation is far from over. The police charge him like he’s a running back with a football. They throw him to the ground, and I don’t mean just one officer,  I’m talking anywhere from two to six officers to take down one suspect, and let’s keep in mind, this, under the law, is still an innocent man.

In most instances, one officer is holding his legs, one is on his back holding him down and holding his arms and cuffing him, while another has his knee on his neck, coming close I’m sure to crushing his wind-pipe. This is a man who has surrendered peacefully lest we forget and it could have been as simple as walking up to him to putting on a pair of handcuffs. I personally don’t see the point of the officers chosing to be violent with him as he hasn’t resisted.

And god forbid he refuses to get down on his knees, or even on his stomach, out comes the taser or pepper spray. And again, I’m not talking about someone who’s being violent, just someone who doesn’t immediately follow and order, and sometimes with good reason. What happened to talking to a suspect to figure out what the issue is?

A couple weeks ago on cops I saw a peaceful and respectful when talking to the cops. All he wanted to do was explain the situation to the officers. As soon as he refused to get out of the truck to prevent it from getting towed because he was parked in a handicapped space but had failed to hang up his placard, even though it was clearly laying on the floor. As soon as he said he wasn’t getting out, out came the pepper spray and they rushed into the truck like the guy was a major threat.

I have real problems watching that program these days, seeing people’s civil rights violated on almost every episode is just too much for me to handle. Seeing how far the state of our civil rights has deteriorated over the years is just depressing as hell. How can we as Americans stand idly by and just let these injustices happen? Nevermind the incidents that don’t make it to air, I think it’s pretty clear that only the juciest arrests make it on the program. What about all the injustices that go on, with or without a camera crew following the police around where the find nothing? I think George W. Bush may have had a point when he called the constitution, quote “Just a damn piece of paper”, even after he, under oath said “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” in his swearing in ceremony.

In my opinion our police have turned into commandos. And god forbid you have a difference of opinion than them. They seem to either ignore or have no problem finding a way to violate our 4th amendment rights to search our homes our vehicles, and other property, and probably a good deal of the other amendments . Has the constitution been forgotten, or simply ignored? We say that America is the greatest country in the world, that may have been the truth at one point, but it seems that day is long past and now we’re a police state. And one run by corrupt officials.

Sad thing is, I doubt there’s anyone out there who can argue with me about this. But if there is, I’d love to hear from you!

Since I was 16 years old, I’ve been working with computers professionally. Technology has come a long way since then. Just today I couldn’t access a laptop because the built-in web-cam recognized that I wasn’t the owner. There have been bumps along the way. The economy being the latest “bump” to say the least. I’ve gained so much experience with so many different technologies, and I’ve done a damn fine job in keeping up with it. From Secure Networking to Enterprise level server construction and maintenance. Linux website hosting via Apache to Windows Server implementations. I’ve even ventured into Secure Entry Systems for office buildings and CCTV Security Systems. I pick up on technology almost as fast as it is released.

It’s an exciting field to be in, to say the least! And I enjoy working with the technology almost as much as I do with the people.  In this economy it is hard to go out on your own, but I’m determined and don’t consider failure to be an option.

I’ve instituted offers such as “Second Hour Free”, just mentioning it means my advertising is working. I’ve also decided to give 10% of profits to support our troops overseas and maybe even more important, our troops that have come home only to be abandoned. I’m deeply committed to making a difference in this world, and after not hearing back from the Wounded Warrior Project, this is what I’ve come up with. I’m also offering a 25% discount to those Military families with members overseas, putting their lives on the line to protect our country. You all are truly all Heroes! I just wish I could thank each and every one of you personally for voulunteering for a war that many of you don’t believe in but know that someone must serve.

Back to the point. I believe our economy will recover and I’ll be here, hopefully creating jobs for those that are in need. This is the only way we’re going to get the 30 Million unemployed working again. Deeply dedicated people who are driven to make a difference helping others.

If you’d like to help in some way, feel free to contact me at JLTechHelp@gmail.com. I’m in West Palm Beach and would be happy to hear from any of you out there.

Bless you all.

“Good luck protecting those poor insurance companies from those poor people trying to screw them out of a profit..”      -From the new TV Show, Scoundrels.

Now how great is that folks?!

Speaking of insurance companies, I’ve finally got myself some affordable insurance and low and behold, it actually saved me some money already after only going active on Sunday! Wonders never cease, huh? I was a happy happy boy!

I just put up a blog for JL TechHelp at http://leetwanker.dyndns.org/wordpress/ . I’ll eventually buy a real domain name for it, but for now, this’ll work. I’ll be posting stuff up there and having clients visit to add feedback and whatnot.

Let me know what you think guys… I know it ain’t much yet – but hoping it provides some value to my customers and maybe even finds me a few new ones.

Thanks All,

Justin

We say we support our Troops. Do we really?

Right now I’m watching a television show that originally aired in Australia in 2009.  It’s a show that basically criticizes the way the world works, be it the news, government, banks, whatever. Their official goal is to “tell you something that you didn’t know”. It’s called “Hungry Beast” and it needs to come to America!

Enough back-story, now to my issue.

I picked up on something the show didn’t expect me to though. At the time of airing, they’d obviously committed a small amount of troops to the war in Afghanistan because only 11 had died since the war started, while America has lost thousands.

The show showed news clips of, what it seemed like, every one of those soldier’s deaths being reported. Now, with America having such a bigger mass of troops committed to the war, I guess every troop’s death couldn’t be reported individually, scratch that, I think they deserve at least that! Because as of right now, I’m not sure that they’re much more than mere numbers to us. These are America’s children, America’s Sons and Daughters, these are America’s future leaders we’re talking about. Americans brave enough to walk into a recruiting office knowing they’re putting their life at a very great risk. I don’t know what the odds are of them coming home from that war, but I’m not sure that they did when they signed up, either. Maybe the news could help with those figures.

My gripe isn’t with the Armed Forces for not clearly explaining the risks that they’re about to sign up to take, or even the “Stop-Loss” policy that somehow I suspect G.W. Bush had something to do with, which keeps soldiers from receiving their honorable discharges at the end of the term that they signed up for, rather, they can be and often are forced to serve for as long as needed. Needless to say, that’s another thing that brings me much shame as an American.

My gripe is with the news. The reason for my gripe is for the news no longer being the news. The “news” has become infotainment. Ratings driven drivel! Their mission statement has gone from informing people about what’s going on in the world or even in your town, whether it would be good for ratings or not. As I understand it, in return for the government giving the rights to use the airwaves to make a profit in return for preforming a public service. They chose to do the news to fulfill that obligation. I say that they’re now failing to do that these days.

The antics of ‘sexyceleb’ are not news-worthy. They’re not a public service. They’re reported on for profit, and that in and of itself is scary. We’d rather here about ‘sexyceleb’ having a public breakdown and going after her husband’s vehicle with one of his golf clubs for instance. Maybe this should be the stuff of an entertainment show, not to say that it’s necessarily any of our damn business to begin with though. Which brings me back to my original point, If we’re going to say that we support our troops, how about we demand that they’re honored in a way commencerate with their and their families’ sacrifice? The news is on 24 hours a day on multiple cable networks, which is plenty of time to show us the Americans who have died fighting wars for our country in recent past.

I’ll tell you one thing. If they replaced Glenn Beck with a memoriam for our fallen soldiers, I’d make damn sure I watched it. And for all the lies and misinformation that Fox News tells in a day, I think they owe at least that much, to honor their commitment to provide a public service to America’s citizens.

May God Bless our Country and every Troop that fights to protect it.

Just some thoughts…

The most crucial time for freedom of speech is sadly when so many people feel it wouldn’t be proper to express themselves, during times of war. It’s important to talk about these things – is there any better way to form an educated opinion than to talk with your friends and co-workers about whatever conflict is being sold to the country, rarely for the actual reasons, but rather than some poll-tested, thrice regurgitated, fear inspiring sound byte that gets the media drooling in their coffee real good and arousing the news producers to such a degree that there’s a noticeable dip in Viagra’s stock price.

But the powers that be rather us not think too hard about anything they’re doing, rather we be uneducated, uncaring, and especially as uninvolved little pussycats. It’s when we speak up, voice our opinions and demand to be heard that things get complicated for them.

See, they have all these buddies that have a rather loose grip on their checkbooks and that’s really quite important when you have to raise thousands of dollars a day if you have any interest in getting re-elected. Further complicating things – they can’t fund raise on government property, so to raise this money they’ve got to leave work. I know, I know, sounds like the system’s irrevocably broken BUT -  it’s probably much worse than you think.

Buy-in-large our elected officials pretty much do whatever someone’s willing to pay them to do – which is always going to be the huge multi-national corporation. Those “buddies” I mentioned earlier – they’re called lobbyists – the corporations employ them to be a liason with the powers that be to make sure they get as much of our money as they can and to keep as much as possible.

And we’re going to keep getting screwed whether we know it’s happening or not – our taxes are going to keep going up, and not to pay down the national debt – or to help fund health care for people who can’t afford it – or even to keep our roads pot-hole free. By a large percentage it goes to sweetheart tax breaks those darn lobbyists negotiate or for a weapons system or a fighter jet that doesn’t work or that the military doesn’t want or need, just to keep the unemployment down in their state while keeping the state’s bigger employers busy making shit.

What’s kinda sad is when it comes to budgets – the Military’s is not to be messed with, in fact it can’t be, even for the most important of reasons. Let’s say that congress unanimously decides that – in this hypothetical situation – There’s no war going on so a bit of the Military’s budget should be used for a more humanitarian purpose. Well, sorry! Starve you fuckers – we want our missiles!

I’d like to collect $1 from every person in the country and use it to hire lobbyists to get things done for people who don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on campaign contributions to negotiate to get things that they want. I wonder if that would work. I’d pay a dollar to have a lobbyist fight for the things that I want – wouldn’t you? Really…. Wouldn’t you?
